Early menopause, also known as premature menopause, occurs when a woman’s menstrual periods stop before the age of 40. It is a condition where the ovaries cease to function normally, leading to a decline in the production of estrogen and other hormones. Early menopause can happen naturally or as a result of medical treatments like surgery or chemotherapy. This condition can lead to various physical and emotional challenges, including an increased risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, and infertility.
Our Experience
In Ayurveda, diagnosing early menopause involves evaluating the patient’s symptoms, menstrual history, lifestyle, and overall health. Physical examination includes assessing signs of hormonal changes and reproductive health. Nadi Pariksha (pulse diagnosis) helps identify imbalances in the doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta, which may contribute to early menopause. Modern diagnostic methods include blood tests to measure hormone levels (such as follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and estradiol), as well as a pelvic exam and possibly an ultrasound to assess ovarian function.
Ayurvedic treatment for early menopause focuses on balancing the doshas, particularly Vata and Pitta, and supporting the body’s natural hormonal balance. The treatment plan may include:
