Diagnosis:

  • Preparation (Purvakarma): Before Uttarbasti, the patient undergoes preparatory treatments such as Abhyanga (oil massage) and Swedana (herbal steam therapy) to soften the tissues and prepare the body for the enema.

  • Administration:

    • For Women (Uterine Basti): The medicated oil or herbal decoction is gently introduced into the uterus through the vaginal canal using a specialized instrument. The patient is asked to lie down in a comfortable position during the procedure.
    • For Men and Women (Urinary Basti): The medicated substance is introduced into the urinary tract via the urethra. This procedure is performed with utmost care and precision under the guidance of an experienced practitioner.
  • Duration and Sessions: The treatment usually involves a series of sessions, with the number and frequency of sessions tailored to the patient’s specific condition and response to therapy.

  • Post-Treatment Care: After the procedure, patients are advised to rest and follow specific dietary and lifestyle guidelines to enhance recovery and effectiveness. This may include consuming easily digestible foods, maintaining hygiene, and avoiding strenuous activities.

Procedure:

  • Preparation: The patient undergoes a preparatory phase called Purvakarma, which includes the use of herbal oils and internal medicines to prepare the body for the emesis process. This phase helps loosen and mobilize the toxins for effective elimination.

  • Administration of Medications: A specific herbal concoction, known as Vamana medicine, is administered to induce vomiting. The medicine is carefully selected based on the patient’s condition and dosha imbalance.

  • Emesis: The patient is guided through the process of induced vomiting under the supervision of an experienced practitioner. The aim is to expel excess Kapha and toxins from the stomach and upper digestive tract.

  • Post-Treatment Care: After the therapy, the patient is given specific dietary and lifestyle recommendations to aid recovery and prevent the reaccumulation of toxins. This may include a light, easily digestible diet and rest.
